The Du Quoin, Illinois State fair held in the fall of each year was, at one time, the home of the Hamiltonian, considered the Kentucky Derby of Harness racing. This race was held on the Sunday preceding Labor Day.
The next day, on Labor Day, U.S.A.C. would conduct the Du Quoin 100 in which cars from the Indianapolis 500 would come to Du Quoin to race 100 miles ON DIRT.
These photos were taken on Labor Day, September 7th, 1964, and interpreted and re-mastered in today’s digital technology from the original Kodak Color Transparencies.
